This large park, which was created in 2004 when a number of smaller parks were combined, runs along the coast and offers easy access to both mountains and pristine beaches. Dense stands of gum, ash and beech trees provide homes to forest animals. Great Otway National Park has numerous camping areas but bear in mind that this is still a rather remote area. Winter rains can occasionally put a damper on transportation, so visitors would be wise to check conditions before finalizing their plans. It's well worth it though, because when a mountain range combines with heavy coastal rainfall it almost always makes for stunning natural vistas. Don't miss seeing one of the Otway Ranges' many waterfalls like Triplet Falls or the Cora Lynn Cascades. Some are easily reached from a nearby road while others require a more strenuous hike. The Great Ocean Walk stretches for 90 hiker-friendly kilometres from Port Apollo to Glenample Homestead, near the famous 12 Apostles.
